COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Skylar Smith joined Elmore as a communications specialist in May 2023. Skylar supports strategic communication and media relations efforts for clients including Houston Parks Board, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market, Harris Health, and Sterling.

Elmore welcomes Skylar’s tenacity, adaptability, and eye for the ‘big picture.’ Prior to joining Elmore, Skylar worked with clients across the travel, financial technology, and food and beverage industries. Her media relations work garnered editorial and broadcast placements in top-tier national and regional outlets, including The New York Times and CBS News.

Skylar has extensive events-related experience. Notably, she supported the development and execution of two group press trips for clients in the tourism sector, highlighting one destination client’s culinary heritage and a park client’s new vacation rentals. She also supported two media missions in New York and Austin respectively, securing over 40 regional and national media attendees. Additionally, Skylar completed a summer marketing internship where she played a key role in the startup’s tradeshow presence, drafting a company-wide events strategy and program.

Skylar received her Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations Strategic Communication from American University, with a minor in International Business. Born and raised in Houston, Skylar has also spent time living in Washington, D.C. and Austin.  She spends her free time reading, traveling, and exploring Houston with her twin sister.
